Finding The Calm Within Week 6

Image
This week’s yoga was phenomenal, I knew the moves that the instructors were talking about, as going for the past 6 weeks has seemed to teach me a thing or two about yoga. Knowing more moves I felt more confident in myself. In addition, I would like to say that within these 6 weeks I have in fact determined that yoga does make individuals lives less stressful. As doing yoga makes me feel that I am in control of myself and can further control my everyday stressors with the guidance yoga has taught me. Furthermore, as a future educator, I will most definitely implement yoga and meditation into my classroom so that my students can feel less stressed, and the classroom can be a safe space for them to learn.  In addition, below I have attached a cute picture of my dog Sophie loving yoga. she saw me doing it and decided the mat looked like a fun space to be.... hope you enjoy! (Malatesta, 2018) I hope you have enjoyed my blog thus far! Stay tuned for more.

Finding The Calm Within Week 5

This week, instead of a regular one-hour yoga class, I attended a 75-minute SSU (sweat, stretch and unwind). I did this in order to gain more valuable information on how to stay calm/ keep calm during day-to-day activities. This class taught me how to do a basic unwinding and breathing exercise that can be used to calm you down as well as relieve tension. I find this to be especially beneficial when it comes to homework or deskwork, as not only does that stress you out, as well it can cause for muscles in the shoulders and neck to tense. This simple stretch of raising your hands above your head while inhaling, putting palms together, and exhaling until the hands reach the abdomen. Following you will intertwine fingers lowering them. Then starting again raising hands above the head and inhaling. This simple method is a simple step to both calm oneself down as well as stretch. In addition I find it to be something simple enough that everyone has the ability to do it anywhere.

Finding The Calm Within Week 4

Hello again everyone, This week I attended two different yoga classes, both being hot yoga, one was a basic SSU class, meaning sweat, stretch and unwind class. While the other was a candle lit hot yoga class. Within these classes I learnt that my favourite pose in order to calm myself down is the child pose. While in the class the instructor teaches you ways to unwind and de stress and by far just taking time to breath when you find yourself in a stressful time or doing something like the child pose will help dramatically. Attached below are the instructions on how to do the child’s pose correctly. So if any of you are looking for a stretch to calm yourselves down, this is my go to.  (Yoga Outlet, 2018) In addition, prior to my next classes (GH Research) I will practice some more yoga moves at home to make myself more knowledgeable in my following classes, as well I will research any other stress relieving stretches online and through my instructor to tell you about fo...

Finding The Calm Within Week 3

I have signed up for yoga and attended 2 yoga classes thus far. I have solely been taking introductory courses so far, involving a heated room with mainly breathing and stretching exercises. Although it doesn't sound like much, let me just tell you in one basic hot yoga class I have never sweat so much in my life. It’s an easier version of a workout, yet it teaches you so many things and detoxifies your body in the process. In order to be successful in the classes, one must drink A LOT of water, which makes sense since it makes you sweat so MUCH! But the feeling after finishing a class is like no other, you not only feel as if you have accomplished something amazing but in addition, you feel refreshed, relaxed and totally alert (I do anyway). In regards to my question, whether or not yoga makes you more relaxed, I have determined it in fact does, not only does it make you calm and relaxed in the class. In addition, the class teaches you breathing techniques and stretches to do in ...
